Holidaying in Vanuatu!

I am a self-taught artist, based in Adelaide, South Australia, who works with coloured pencils and acrylic paint.  As a child, I was forever drawing anything and everything.  My dad bought me a set of Derwent artist pencils and they quickly became my most precious possession.  Besides coloured pencils, I drew graphite portraits and also started creating digital images.  During my teenage years, I drew flowers, animals, people, landscapes, fantasy and science fiction images.  I drew completely from my imagination and did not use photo references.  By not using photos, I developed my skills in drawing accurately and understanding how getting proportions correct impacted on how realistic the artwork looked.  I loved dragons, so many of my pieces from this time featured dragons, along with other mythical creatures.

Art remained a hobby as I left high school, studied at University, and then started working full time.  I continued to explore acrylic paint and digital artwork, using it as a method to relax and reduce stress.  After the birth of my daughter, I took up painting again and I decided that my artwork was at a level of skill where I could sell it.  I bought an airbrush and discovered the amazing effects you can add using an airbrush that can be used for both acrylic paintings as well as backgrounds for coloured pencil artwork. I bought a set of Faber Castell polychromos pencils, and didn’t look back! It quickly became my favourite medium to use.

I am a person that loves being outdoors and see myself as an amateur nature photographer.  I use my many outdoor adventures as inspiration for my artwork, loving to create images of wildlife and scenery from the places I have been.
